~Thoughts for the day~

Finding the wonderous things in a day! I’ll start with blue skies and sunshine! The quiet, a time for thought. Life feels good. Yesterday, I began wrapping up another Shibui that will work for the collaboration I am involved with. Now that the studio is working for me I can schedule what happens in the process of the days ahead. I really do like things to be orderly, when they are not things feel afloat. This said I do like to do multiple things with more than just the writing and art. However, there is something very pleasing about determining the order of operations. There is a working plan. Some of yesterday was focusing in on what my plan needs to be like to accomplish my goals.

I went through the Shibui Found Image Art finding foundations that interested me and pulled those I thought would work for the collaboration. I found several that made me think of the heart. These will be perfect for the depiction of having connections with others, and all else that lives due to consciousness. Finding the Shibui has me leaning towards that form of art for the collaboration. I began to write about the meanings found in the Shibui now titled “Becoming”.

While a Shibui a story begins to unfold as we find meaning in what comes out of imagination; the shapes that become forms take on a kind of personality, there is commonality unfolding so relationships become established. The Shibui “Becoming” is just that! It began with branch like strokes of black India ink on damp Rives BFK. Drops of the black India Ink suggested flowers to me. These make wonderful centers and when you use pastel pencils over them you often have a fine texture that works well for the centers. Just add the petals with a 005 or 05 Black Micron pen. Flowers and their leaves come first, then it is looking at what’s happening with the branches. My imagination found the branches to be old___ I think due to the tonal values of grey. Bright flowers suggest newness. The old embracing the new; a connection. Applying different colors to the flowers is depicting differences.

The flowers are different in the same way as all things born out of consciousness are different, yet in life as we know it the common bond is consciousness itself, the will to become whatever form it is; according to its own unique being. This miraculous and something of awe is evoked when you pay attention.

There is wisdom in old things. The branches in “Becoming” I imagined as having wisdom due to their appearance of being aged. The poetry if you will of painting is painting the words, telling the story. The glimpse into the imagination, the statement and facilitation of what may be felt by others.

I also like to find things within what is found, a let it hide there until found by the viewer. Within “Becoming” I found two spirit creatures, the head of a dragon, two sets of footprints, and two little animals in an unlikely spot.

There are new growth as smaller branches come off the old ancient branches. Mushrooms have made a home on old branches. A spider has its home there as well. Spiders represent artistic expression and innovation. They are associated with weaving the treads of life, recalled as stories about The Three Fates (Mythology, we create our own mythology as humans and hardly think about it.) I was reminded as I looked up the meaning of spiders for accuracy. Noted thoughts were about their ability to walk between worlds, the ground and air which depicts harmony. In native American traditions siders are “The Great Weaver, the one who spun the universe into existence. ” In this same way I am the weaver, and it is why I put the spider in the Shibui. Imagination weaves a wonderful story. Symbology leads its way through possibilities.

Once I do a photo shoot and feel it is totally done, I will do a photo shoot of “Becoming” and share it. Some other Shibui stories instead.
