Good Morning! Sunshine!
Morning thoughts
Good morning! I am back to the blog after taking a couple days to focus on studio work and creating a slide show for teaching purposes as well to introduce Shibui to target audiences. There are two facilities I have in mind but one is really interesting me. This means my goals are to not just create slide shows for those intended audiences but also preparing physical portfolios. It means writing ideas down in a business journal so as not to lose them.
In the studio I have been working three different Shibui. The last one differs. I realized I had taken a different and unplanned approach. I focused on what I wanted to find. I did not move into a finding process. The two experiences are different because intentional thought is more selective, I feel. This is new to me, so I am unsure of my thoughts about it. The Shibui problem to solve then? The intention was to express something I was interested in over finding what was there.
The results have been to work with a Black India Ink micron pen and watercolor with a brush before working with pastel pencils to enhance color and create the illusion of three-dimensionality. Working the Shibui in this way means I am adding another layer of color which blends into the watercolor or adds to what is happening with it. The tint becomes darker. The image itself is a group of tall women with very elongated bodies; a small figure peeks out from the middle of this group. Also, female but a child or teenager. She is the child within. One woman is the obvious leader; the others depict different aspects of womanly self. For example, one is pregnant and another carries a child on her back. All figures appear to be loving, happy women. There is a sense of intention, of embodiment, welcoming, a purpose in there meeting. They lovingly know one another. There is a woman in front of the leader of the group, a wise woman, who is kissing her on top of the head. She is being welcomed, the women behind touches her back lovingly. Perhaps she is the mother of the child within. Symbolic things are in place, candles, matches and the wise woman, I have decided that is who she is___, she carries a walking stick indicating that she travels. Made from the splatters from action art there are these bright orbs throughout the Shibui. These depict energy. I will post the image when it is done.
Today promises blue skies. I will walk around the two blocks I did yesterday and stop at the library. I want to get a book my friend Alice suggested. The first book in the William Monk series, The Face Of A Stranger by Anne Perry. On the 8th of the month, I will get this as a free book in Audible. But there is nothing like a book in one’s hands. It has been years since I have taken books to bed with me. I have been and it feels marvelous!
The best of wishes to all, May love and laughter find you! Pejj Nunes
