Good Morning! Coffee at the ready! It is to be a hot day today, in the 90s. I am packing things for Maine today. Yesterday was Emma’s dance recital and it was wonderful! The girls have worked hard, and it paid off beautifully!
I truly appreciate what they do, I had a good taste of what it was to dance, but I did not do it for years like all of them have. My experience was modern dance for gym in high school, then much later a I chose dance as my performance art in college. This included dance such as Martha Graham did as choreography. Dancing with balls, scarves or other fabrics to music. I loved it but I am not sure many students took to it. The high school I went to Nokomis Reginal High did have some unique classes. I was interested in all of them! That experience was for one three-month semester, three-hour classes once a week and three-hour practices during the week. We went to wonderful dance events. We learned to work across the floor as a group, warm up, choreography, and we had to dance solo for our final. It was a serious endeavor as a crash course in dance. Now that I have gone to Emma’s recitals, I feel I did ok after all! I wish I had kept the tape of my final dance. The next class was more about choreography. However, there were other classes I wanted to accomplish. One such class was quantitative decision making, a math class! I got a B Plus for that class. I am not a great mathematician that’s for sure! There were many tutors to help me accomplish the class. LOL. One I bartered with, he needed a ride to Boston, Massachusetts and I needed his tutoring. In the end it was a childhood dream to dance, and I was in my thirties then.
Looking back, I would have to say I have done a lot of different things. Life has had its opportunities. Now it offers more. I think the thing to do is embrace such opportunities, if you don’t find them, make them!
They offered a class in journalism as well which I took. One of my teachers focused in on my ability to write and mentored me. Mrs. Parson was her name, she herself wrote books. She knew I loved writing poetry. My point is that teachers are important mentors, they shape your ideas and teach you to put the effort in. I have mentored my art students. This was rewarding.
It seems today’s thoughts have been about dance, writing, and feeling fortunate. I encouraged Emma’s early dance interest, and she is pulling it off! I still can influence by finding dance performances and supporting her. We need life to be more by making it more.
Best wishes! May love and laughter find you! Pejj Nunes
