Childhood, summer and the beach. Floating memories have I.

You learn to swim all of a sudden when cute boys toss you of the wharf.

Simply glad you have come up, trying to look “not terrified, I don’t swim!”

I am wearing my first bikini, black bottoms, black, white top.

In secret I practice the dog paddle, the strokes____ when they are not there.

Acceptance happens, they talk to me and invite me to places.

There is a spot of beach, we call it Sandy Beach. It’s small but there is sand.

We make a raft together; it heavily floats but does float! The life of summer!

Of teenagers, families that play the piano and accordion, card games,

Dominos, checkers and chess. And there were are in summer heat and rain.

Jumping of wharf and rocks. Fishing of rocks and wharfs. Boats, canoes____.
