Managing the day for me means a couple of must do things. Doing end runs around old habits I don’t want to fall into.
Staying consistent with what I prioritize such as writing the WordPress blog Good Morning Sunshine each day. The move had taken me away from writing regularly writing the blog at times, as have other things and doing for other people out of necessity.
Rather than let the blog slide into oblivion I kept its importance to me in mind; along with what Catherine Orer my business coach had taught. Also keeping in mind, “It is ok to Pivot when things stop working!” Meaning also that to return to it is important if you believe it is! I love writing the blog. I write because it is important to find others like yourself and to find a way to support others with what they do. Before I went to art school, I was on my own with what I did as art or writing. There was no one like me that I knew. I had all these thoughts and questions! I like that blogging is a way to give something to others.
A brief explanation to your patrons is important. Patrons have crazy or busy things happen in their lives too.
So, how does a day begin here at Anisette Studio?
The writing of the blog, breakfast, and movement!
Movement/exercising for health needs to happen for an artist or writers. Health issues will occur if you just sit working all day long. Getting out of the house is important, so doing the household chores and errands has its place in the course of a day.
Planning the day is important so there is balance with what you do.
I work and even set a timer, so I am aware of the time I am working. It adds up! It often ends up being an 8-hour day in the studio. But sometimes it’s less. The time spent at the end of the week is the goal. 40 hours is what most people work, so I shoot for that. Keeping track of the time spent on working helps you to feel good about taking “free time”, having weekends and evenings off to do those other things. I do my chores as breaks. Looking at doing them as breaks means I see them differently. Doing chores is movement. It is also a break from the work not just from sitting. Think a bit about what it is to do dishes, empty trash, fold laundry and make the bed. Or it could be using the vibration plate, washing hair. Things you need to do count as moving too!
Hob knobbing is also a part of moving forward! Setting at the desk, comfortable chair and writing stand while making phone calls that connect you with others. Looking up events to go where you can meet others. Looking at other artists websites will give you ideas which you can apply. Going to an art event, a gallery is inspiring. This is meeting one’s artistic needs. When your hob knobbing with others about your art related business it is included as a part of your workday.
It is also important when I get up to dress as I want to be seen, which is nicely dressed and not in pajamas or something. I make sure to comb my hair and put some earrings in, do a touch of makeup. Feeling good about one’s appearance matters. When people drop by or if I need to run an errand, I look good. It is important to feel good about yourself and to feel your being professional as an artist. It’s a good habit to keep. Appearance is important! Your appearance and the appearance of your studio’s workspace. 4/28/2026
