Good morning! Coffee is at the ready! I am at the ready! It is another Sunny day here! And I love sunny day! The plan is to get out into it! I think it get into the 40’s today. May you have sunshine, if not may you be the sunshine!
When I grew up weekends were thought of as time off. Not that was truly the case as it remains the time to catch up on at least some of what we don’t get to during the week. But people hang onto the idea and argue the point it should be a time to relax and have fun in the mix. I am giving myself permission to read the books I have always wanted to read. Art is never out of the question. And I am reaching out to family and friends.
When you work where you live a routine is important. If you do not watch the clock and simply work so many hours, if you take breaks during the day. If you have an area you can go to and that place is your job site. It helps but you must see it as where you work! It has to do with believing. The mind takes this message and it makes the work space feel real, just like people who go out to a job and then return home.
People who work out of their homes need to learn to walk by the laundry, the dishes, etc, or they need to make the doing of a household chore the break and do those things to make the space uncluttered. Putting a load of laundry in is movement. Sitting the whole time without moving is not good, it will affect your health. I have had days that add up to 10 hours with little movement in the past.
If you don’t take the time you’re at risk of burn out as well as health issues. So, what is the norm if you will. How much should you really expect to accomplish and not be supper human. It turns out that when we are consistent with what we do, when we stick to our goals things often avalanche. Not every day is an avalanche! But when you are not thinking so hard at the desire to be successful, it happens. It happens without you bogging down into thoughts that hold you back.
Someone who is an artist needs to be creative, but you need to sell yourself and be noticed by those people who will be interested in your work, and who will buy it. This means getting out of the studio or working towards that effort. After learning these things, sticking to it by being consistent, it is a matter of just doing it! Know to that taking time away from art or writing means you haven’t got what it takes. It means you’re giving yourself the time to be recharged. Finding what that balance is matters. The end product of art and writing means you need to have something of quality when you’re done. Hurrying things, not getting rest, not being involved with family and friends, not taking care of the self. Not being a part of these things, means taking it on the chin to the point that things will not be all they can be.
Today there are people who coach artist and writers, but we need them to know what they are talking about. They need to be seasoned and have real understand of what it takes to be the writer or artist. You can’t be so hard on yourself or caught up in what you should be doing either. I am talking about that sense “I should be doing this, no that!” If you’re not free of being overwhelmed by thoughts, and belief’s you can’t create. What is required is finding balance. Learning to shut out the things that rob the experience of creativity. You need to zone when creating. Feel it, be a part of it and don’t over think, have good priorities and goals. Just do it!
