Good Morning! Yes, still morning. I found some favorite books today as I sort out the cottage. The ones I was hunting for of course! So I thought I would share some favorite lines from To Everything There Is A Season, by Joyce Hifler.
“I have a garden in my mind___ in which I walk sometimes___ and in the glowing gold___ of a setting sun___ a rose of courage climbs___ and finds its way along the fence___ that protects and holds my heart___ And all along the walk of love___ the flower of peace makes it start___ A mocking bird in all its joy___ sings deep withing the night. ___And rest comes gently drifting down___ and settles oh so lightly__ upon my grateful heart serene___ and I spend my tranquil hours___ within the garden of my mind___ among the fragrant flowers. From chapter 2, “A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which has been planted___ .”
My grandmother gave me this book when I was sixteen. I was a saving grace then as well as one more book which made me want to write and create poetry. Along with a love of reading I was hooked deep. I love words, they have such power, so many meanings. The written word plant seeds of wisdom, joy and they facilitate ideas.
Hifler knew how to paint with her words. Her words flow and you can see the world, and easily grasp her train of thought. Such is the case with the following words.
“When the air becomes particularly soft and sweet, though rain and sleet left a field of diamonds and pearls glittering and bejeweling the fields about, then it is nearing a time to plant. The heart of the productive world is stirred long before the sap begins to run. Wintery fingers are still tapping on frosty windows when life knocks loudly on the door and invites a new world of wonder to come out and be seen. Crocus and grape hyacinths bloom bright gold and purple in the snow, and fingers of green poke their way with sheer bravado through a still-crusty earth. The tide of the year changes and suddenly__ thought a thousand unseen sopranos break the silence___ there in a time to plant!”
There is a time to plant new seeds, to be new, and change things up! We survive, we can move past what hurts us. We can find the good in things!
Best wishes! Pejj
