Good Morning to you! At this time it is cooler outside. “Saturday all day long” as the older folks would say. I used to think, as if it’s not. And wonder a bit about the phrase. I eventually got it. And of course it is an all-day event to be Saturday. I think it was said to children for one reason or another. To say it on a Saturday meant it is a whole day to do something for yourself, catch up on things, play for little kids, chores, whatever the thing one does is. It means something different to everyone depending on what they do. Like Monday being Monday means it’s the first day of work for some. For Thomas a call from a fellow Jazz enthusiastic (Charlie Hunter) meant it was the first Monday of the Month and the Jazz group would meet up at a restaurant. That he would pick Thomas up. Sometimes I would go. Men who loved Jazz from all walks in life talking about different musicians they had met or heard, or something about them. After Tom and I married we would go to the Bridgeway Restaurant on B Street to meet with others Jazz enthusiast to have a meal and to listen to the live band play and sing Jazz. Don Doane and his brother, Ralph Norris, Albie Dealerman, Mary McPartland. I am forgetting some of the names.
Thomas’ Jazz prints were all around the restaurant walls. I forget how many but at least a dozen different lithographic prints of all the great Jazz musicians or singers.
Thomas and I went to Rajals another restaurant in Portland, Maine and saw the ghost band of Count Basie. It was fantastic.
Memories. Good times. Best wishes! Pejj Nunes
